US manufacturing money talks in 2025 and 2026 keep coming back to the same tension. Plants want more capacity and fewer single points of failure, and they still cannot hire the people they need. Automation is one of the levers. The money is not spread evenly across new plants, upgrades of existing plants, and one-cell improvements.
Themes attracting attention
- More output with fewer people per unit — packaging, moving material, and partly automated cells that protect how much the line can make.
- Upgrades of existing plants — replacing obsolete PLCs and operator screens, adding a way to store the readings, and raising how much of the available time actually makes good product, without rebuilding the whole plant. A PLC is the controller that runs the machine. The operator screen is the HMI. That “time making good product” measure is what plants call OEE.
- Traceability and quality systems — knowing which lot went where, especially when a regulator or a customer audits the supply chain.
- Seeing energy and utilities — meters and controls that support cost reports and environmental reporting, without turning into a science project. Environmental and social reporting is what people mean by ESG.
What this is not
This is not a claim about any specific company’s fundraising round, and it is not a made-up market-size number. Public markets, private investment, and company equipment budgets move for many reasons. Capex is that equipment budget. For engineering teams, the useful signal is the direction: upgrades and selective automation remain easier to fund than a speculative “nobody in the building” factory.
What that means for the controls work
Budgets favor projects with a clear outcome in throughput, quality, or compliance. That rewards a solid PLC and SCADA foundation, clean collection of the data, and a disciplined startup. SCADA is the plant screens and alarms above the machines. Orgenis helps plants turn “we want to invest” into a scoped controls plan. Audit first, then engineering.
